Sausage and Cheddar Biscuits

- 1/4 lb Caroline’s Smoked Turkey Sausage®
 
- 2 ½ cups Flour
 
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
 
- 1 tsp Salt
 
- ½ tsp Baking Soda
 
- 1/3 cup Vegetable Shortening
 
- 1 cup Buttermilk
 
- 1 cup Cheddar Cheese, shredded
 
                   
                 
             
            
            
                 
                
                    
                        
- 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees
 
- 2. Cut sausage into ½ inch cubes
 
- 3. Cook over medium heat until browned
 
- 4. In a mixing bowl fold flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda into the vegetable shortening
 
- 5. Add buttermilk, bringing the clumpy mixture to a doughy consistency
 
- 6. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface, creating 10 dough balls
 
- 7. Flatten the dough balls and fold in the sausage and cheddar
 
- 8. Bake on a greased baking sheet for 12 minutes or until golden brown
 
- 9. Serve alone or as a breakfast side
